How do you mount a punching bag?

I would like to get a punching bag for my apt. I'm not sure how to mount it though.

The obvious solution would be a chain from the ceiling but I'm afraid it will swing a little too much. A frame would take up too much space.

Anyone have any ideas or own a bag?

Same way you mount a lady. Gently.

And to actually contribute to the thread, depending on the weight of the bag, it really shouldn't swing that much at all.

How about a punching bag that cooks and cleans?

You're obviously not doing it hard enough.

You would have to drill into a one of the beams in the ceiling to secure something of that weight. Does your landlord allow this? I sure wouldn't let my tenants touch the ceiling beams.

A couple of thoughts -
1. I agree with everyone who has some concerns about your drilling into ceiling beams. (In my own case, I have my bag hanging in my basement screwed into 100 year old 12 x 12 beams and it's not a big deal because - hey - they're my beams.)
2. There really are iron supports for hanging a heavy bag that will fit into a corner and should work for you.
3. Likewise, depending on what you're using your bag for (boxing alone vs. punching/kicking) you might want to think about looking into one of the gizmos from martial arts supply companies such as Century that have a heavy water-filled base/column and then the "bag" fits over the supporting column.
4. Or, if you have your heart set on a ceiling-hung bag, just slip a bungee cord through the strap that's usually on the base of the bag and use the bungee cord to attach the bag to something heavy on the floor to keep the bag from moving around too much (a tire, a cinder block, an iron plate from a weight set.)

Hope this helps
