Have a functional question: Sock Garters

I realize this is an old school item, and not really talked about, but do people wear sock garters anymore?

The reason I ask is that I have huge calves. It's literally the first thing people notice on me when I'm wearing shorts. It was a good thing when I played college baseball, but now it's more of an annoyance than anything. With that said, I have one of the biggest troubles with socks. I need to find a way to keep my socks from falling down and bunching up around my ankles.

My question: Any alternatives to sock garters for keeping my dress socks up? I pull my socks up at least 20 times a day and they fall down within minutes of adjusting them. It looks silly when sitting down.

Any tips or help is greatly appreciated. Also, I live down south so the summer heat is an issue. The less the better. I realize there's probably going to be some jokes with this. I'll be honest, I'm a bit curious to see where it heads.

Really a school boy item but why not wear shorter socks if this is a problem?

Won't shorter socks exacerbate the problem? Longer socks that reach over the curvature of the calves tend to stay put.

I live in the deep south - lots of heat - and I have the same problem as you. I suffer through the heat with OTC socks - its the only real solution.

I just feel that sock garters wouldn't quite work as well as longer socks. Either that, or go sockless (assuming that your shoes are of a high enough quality to make such a thing comfortable)

I wear these when necessary, that is, when for whatever reason a pair of socks no longer stay up but they are otherwise good socks. I notice no benefit/drawback in heat or cold.

I appreciate it gentlemen for the help. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem.

It's an issue because like I said, I have an athletic build. With that comes a big backside so when I sit down, my pant legs will ride up a good 6-8" depending on my pants cut, and when I'm sitting in a meeting with a client I don't want to keep pulling my socks up.

The last thing I want is to end up meeting with a wealthy old lady and having her think I'm trying to show her some leg to get her to do some business with me, LOL.

I wear them because of my big calves. If I wear OTC socks, my pants catch on the widest part of my calf when I stand up. Wearing "regular" length socks, to just below or just up onto the meatiest part of the calf, held up by sock garters, keeps the socks up and prevents the catching problem.

I've always been of the opinion that there are far worse things in life than to have your socks slip down, and that one of those things would be to wear sock garters...
