Personally, I think it's a terrible idea, unless you have your own plane OR plan to drive everywhere by car.

Gucci isn't primarily a luggage maker and really the luggage is going to get the **** kicked out of it by the airlines. As well, the premium markup on the luggage is far and beyond what it was back-in-the-day and you'll pay a fortune for luggage that will look used and abused after a few trips.

Get it if you really want it, but with airline travel these days, I fail to see the point of expensive, delicate, luxe luggage. Having had LV, Dior, Borbonese, etc. luggage get ruined/scuffed/etc... I now stick to ugly, but bulletproof and indestructible, Tumi. Briggs&Riley are also good.

This sounds like a good idea. Trust me... the first time your Gucci suitcase comes around the carousel with the zipper pulls ripped off, the handle pulled off on one side, and a big black, gummy, mark across half the front that will NOT come off... you'll wish you had a functional, well-made, indescructible set of luggage for half, or even 1/3, the price. Luxe designer (Prada, LV, Gucci, etc.) luggage is nice, but it IS more delicate than you'd expect.
