Gourmet magazine caused quite a stir a few years ago when it named the Highland Bar & Grill in Birmingham, Ala. the 5th best restaurant in the USA.
I finally tried it and Gourmet may be right. It was wonderful, both food and service. They even followed the BOR to the letter. Imagine, little Birmingham has more sophisticated service than exists in Atlanta.
We also tried its sister more Italian place, Bottega, and it may even be better. Chez FonFon (next door to Highland Bar & Grill) is open, but we had no time to try it too, as we had filled both dinner spots and it is only open for lunch Tues-Friday. Head south, guys.
