Retail can be fun, even at places like the Gap. But depending on how old/cynical you are, you may find the corporate propaganda tough to swallow. I'm toying with the idea of picking up a part-time retail job at this point, but would probably look to smaller, independent shops only.

I would personally go for it in a place where the discount would be of benefit to you - When I have worked in retail it has always been in places that suited me!!!

Admittedly these have mostly been shoe shops and I spent all my earnings on shoes as I bout more due to the discount but its such fun trying on all the new stuff when it comes a=in and buying stuff up before anyone else has evehn had a glimpse

Your current job is 6 am to 4 pm? What business job begins at 6 am?

My business job starts as early as 5 am. I own a real estate development/construction company. There are many days when my partner and I are here at 5 getting things done.

Are you trying to get any retail job or a commissioned job in a big or boutique store? Cause you likely won't be able to get a commissioned job working just weekends, especially in this economic climate. I work commissioned sales in a big store and all we are doing is cutting back and cutting back. Times are tough.

What you may be able to do is get a job for the Holiday periods or a short cashiering job for a sale.

Also, if you do manage to get a part time, commissioned job I don't know how much you will enjoy the added stresses that you get in addition to your full time job. Not worth the discount IMO.

I said ******* to getting a retail job.

It was just one of those fleeting thoughts. I work good hours now, so it's no worries now.

I just wanted a discount to a dept store.

I do IT support for an oil company.

We are open from 6am to 7pm, depending on how many people are working that need help. I choose the earlier shift to avoid traffic and have the rest of my day.

This thread has my hamster wheel turning. If you took a retail job and realized it wasn't working out for you instead of quitting see what it takes to get fired.

Have you guys ever thought about getting a crap job and seeing how far you can push things before you get fired? I've thought about finding a job, being super polite, working hard for 2 weeks, make friends with a lot of people you work with, and then dropping a bomb.

Start slowly breaking the rules and doing strange things. Wear completely absurd clothes to work. Just walk away from your job for like 30 minutes without saying a word. Start doing a really bad job and when confronted act really polite and play dumb. Just do whatever entertains you while at work. My guess is that you could probably get away with stuff like that for 2 weeks without being fired, depending on where you are at.

Most higher end places will not hire part time.
