Am I a douche bag to get functional buttons on my sleeves? Is there hope for me?

The answers are "yes" and "no", but you pick the order.

No. Surgeon's cuffs are great, sign of a good suit. Or, at least a suit trying to look like a good suit. LOL.

If this is off-the-rack and you have a limited budget, then spend your money on making sure the fit is as good as possible. Then get the working sleeve buttons.

And leaving them open is what might qualify you for douchebag status depending on who you ask.

Not a douche. Just don't leave them unbuttoned all the time.

I must ask: what is the point of having them if it's conceded that undoing them is douchebaggery?

It allows you to confirm your independence and indifference to the opinions of others by posting on SF that you don't leave them open like a db.

Funny, that's what my broker says about mortgage-backed securities, and my butcher about kobe beef.

my good man, are you suggesting to me that i've been had? That I've been pulled a fast one, that I bought a beamer but was handed a pair of kangaroo skin boots, sparkly spurs a perfectly patinaed leather sombreros and a tuned harmonica?

Not had, but I think the tailor's bullshitting you.

I like functional sleeve buttons, and yes sometimes I leave one or even two undone (on each sleeve) from time to time. I personally don't feel it's done in poor taste - and the reality is the vast majority of people still don't even notice. Leaving one or two undone is still quite subtle in my opinion. The bottom line is, I notice, and I like it. Contrary to what many here might think - not EVERYONE in the world thinks the same way and notices such details as much as those who participate here on the forum (a shame, I know)!

Personally, I leave one button undone on my left sleeve, and two on my right sleeve. To me, that just expresses my unique individuality.

Oh, and of course I leave one open on my fly, too...
