French thrift shops....

Hi all

Got a couple of days in Paris coming up on either side of a business trip to Toulouse.

Was wondering if there were good bargains to be had thrift shopping for suits and shirts and coats and so on in Paris.

Any recommendations (and offers to join me on the expedition.) appreciated.

Upon checking, it's not available on Amazon at this time. Try fnac.com or go to a fnac store when you are in Paris. It's only 15 euros.

Look for magasins de stock (outlets), magasins de troc, braderies and depots-ventes, the last of which are used clothing stores. There are some near the Paris II - Assas building near Metro Vavin, but a book called Paris Pas Cher would have the full skinny. That said, I haven't noticed used clothing prices being very reasonable at such stores. If you're after vintage couture-level stuff then Didier Ludot in the Palais Royal is the place, but it's mainly or all women's and extremely expensive.

It's probably not that obvious if you're not too familiar with France. The recipients of the Foundation's services are orphans. Le Secours Populaire Francais (text from their website) : Started in 1945, the Secours populaire français (SPF) is a non profit association which has been declared Main National Cause and is entitled to receive gifts and bequests. We gather people from all conditions and origins, who are deemed to make solidarity something real. the Secours populaire is mostly dedicated to exclusion problems related to children and poor families. Short term actions consist on providing food and clothing. Long term, we look to enable professional integration, access to culture, sports, hobbies, health, holidays, defense of human rights, while preserving everybody's dignity in mutual collaboration. the SPF works with local partners on development and education projects. There also, the Secours populaire reacts to urgency during armed conflicts and natural catastrophes.

You have very few second hand clothes shop for men and prices are too high (i saw once a Lewin shirt more expensive than a new one at full price.)
