Forum Consensus on Macrame/Braided Belts?

What's the general opinion on belts like the ones below? What can they be worn with? Are they mostly for warm weather?

Don't know why. They don't wear them as part of their uniform.

Warm weather with colored chinos. They're not that much different from ribbon belts.

I know it's not exactly the same but can you see the resemblance? I hated mine when I was a kid because the cheap thing broke...

Not so much.

That does remind me of military issued belts however.

They're a little flimsy, but I've seen it done well.
