i meant that why cant USBs have the firewire direct connect feature. secondly, most desktops have firewire, but PC laptops dont...

Oh... well, there's a complicated answer to that, which ultimately boils down to the fact that USB and Firewire were actually designed to do two different things.

The USB transfer architecture really won't allow direct connection.

I have Acronis on my old system, and everything backed up on a hard drive. I use Opera and already have duplicated my settings...
Don't you have to buy Acronis for EACH computer you use it on? I remember it being quite the pain to get loaded...
Salesman told me I could just run a USB between them and let her rip...

I usually just plug the source system into my wired network, share the root, and copy the necessary data. But this assumes an existing network with all the appropriate settings on the computers and firewalls and such.
