Experiences having long sleeves tailored to short?

I live in Texas. It's freaking hot most of the time, long-sleeves are unbearable much of the year, even rolled up. I don't like wearing polos or t-shirts most of the time. I need more short-sleeve shirts that aren't western/Dickies/etc..

It's all but impossible to find simple, short-sleeve button-up shirts that I like - last year J. Crew had zero, Gap had a couple of terrible ones, etc.. But everyone makes decent long-sleeve shirts (pattern and solid).

So is this something that a tailor should be able to do without much trouble? I'm not sure how the sleeves might fit after being shortened.

I thought all you cowboys just rolled up yer sleeves. Start wearing short-sleeved shirts in Tejas and yer manhood will be called into question, son.

When I worked at Nordstrom I had this old guy ***** me out for 20 minutes one time because we didn't have any short sleeve button front shirts

It's possible to do, but a little tricky as the long sleeve tapers, when you really need it straight to make the little cuff. A tailor/seamstress with some skill should be able to do it.

My experience was horrible but not because of the idea but because the lady that did mine made the sleeves WAYYYYYYY to short. She miscut by inches! So all of the ones I got converted had to be given away =(
