Well, somebody's random comment on my beautiful Sam Hober Ancient Madder paisley tie got me thinking about South Asian contribution to men's style. The more I though about it I realised that it is very substantial and poorly recognised. So here go somethings I know. Feel free to add more

- pailsey pattern
-seersucker
-madras cotton
-cummerbund
-pyjamas
-gingham checks (?)
- Nehru jacket
-tussah silk
-khaki/chino fabric
-sola hat
-cashmere fabric
- mohair/angora weaving (?)

I am not sure about handlebar moustache and the colour pink but would not be surprised. Is there any other Asian country with a greater origonal contribution to mainstream men's style?

Funnily enough, from just the thread title, I was going to come in here and mention India. Although I suppose (what used to be referred to as) Persia might be accurate too, as it strikes me that a lot of these influences stem from the fusion of Moghul traditions with its later Persian overlay. And then mixed with British tailoring to end up with the above.

I spilled Pad Thai on a Kiton shirt last night. Does that count?

The Persian influence probably came by way of india. What's remarkable is I am still trying to scratch my head to come up with any ethnic influence outside of india.

India has culturally impacted/controlled many countries for years..........all without sending a single soldier across her borders.

I remember when Caucasians would clown traditional Indian dress and now fiend for anything resembling a kurta or saree (I believe the term is "ethnic").

its more persian and mughal than india. and no, mughals are not indian

1) Cashmere originated in the West Himalayas - this is in india.

2) The word Cashmere derives from 'Kashmir' - again for all intents & purposes this is in india.

3) mughals regardless of their ethnic origin, ruled india

Before patronising, get your facts straight.
