Hello,

How are you gents doing today?

I am pretty fashion illiterate but I'd very eager to learn from the best :)

As a new graduate, I've been looking for a pair of shoes to wear to interviews and eventually a white collar job. I've heard great things about Allen Edwards but 399 CAD + taxes is kinda out of my price range at the moment.

So what brand will give me the best value (quality, durability) for under $200? By the way, I live in Canada where prices and taxes are grossly inflated than in the US if that changes anything.

Thank you in advance!

If you want AE then check out Nordstrom. They are having a sale now $229 I believe. Better than yor 399 CAD. Someone else may know of a cheaper place to buy.

BTW, AE stores are pricematching Nordstrom if they don't have your size.

I replied but it appears it is in moderation, along with another post I made a little earlier. Hopefully they will show the message for you.

If AE's are too expensive (and you're not willing to buy used), your choices are somewhat limited, at least for what people on this forum usually wear.

New shoes, under $200 that are quality are hard to come by if not impossible. I'd suggest Johnston & Murphy or Florsheim, I suppose. But if at all possible, I'd recommend spending the extra $100+ and getting AE's

Where can I get used AEs then?

How about this? http://www.florsheimshoes.ca/shop/style/13136-001.html Why is the bottom made of rubber though?

+1 Johnston and Murphy. You can get a pair of Meltons (their lowest price captoes) on Amazon for somewhere around $100 right now depending on your shoe size. You can always use them as rain shoes when you add a pair of AE's to the wardrobe.

I started with two pairs of Johnston & Murphy shoes. One black and one brown. They have served me well so far. I have to wear dress shoes everyday so I'm sure I'll be adding to them soon. I'll be going AE for my next purchase. If I had found this site before buying the J&Ms I probably would've started with the AE.

Thank to all for the response so far guys.

So are there any fake used AEs on Ebay then? From the looks of it, I can find a used pair for 120 bucks + 30 for shipping.

Do you really want to wear someone else's shoes? I'd personally rather buy new from a lesser brand to hold me over until I can wear the next level up. If you find something you like that is a little more expensive, do a big Google search for the specific shoe. You might stumble upon a random site that has that exact shoe for a discount.

If you really want to keep in it the $150.00 range new I would recommend Johnston & Murphy. You can even find a good pair new or listed as "used but never worn", on ebay for $80-120. I bought a pair off ebay "used but never worn" and they arrived in the box with tags and had clearly never been worn (I think they were a display model or something).

I got my first pair at Aldo. Originally $225.00, down to $150.00 and I had a $15 off coupon I got from Tip Top when I bought some ties. This was just back in June.

I believe the pair I got from Aldo were called Meltons.
