For those of you not looking for designer stuff, Uniqlo as Chrono metioned and UO both have some surprisingly solid [cut and color options] shorts right now.

The Wings+Horns washed wool shorts from this season's collection are awesome. Amazingly soft fabric, great looking understated texture/pattern, and a slim cut. Of all the shorts I own, these are by far my favorite. Expensive though.

I almost got those, but I opted for the light blue/white ones. H&M stuff is almost always pretty small for the size.
