Ok, I just bought a new dark blue comforter from target and I went to wash it in cold water with normal tide and when I took it out of they dryer I found out it developed these purplish splotches on it. The tag says wash warm water, with non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry. What did i do wrong? Is their anyway to selvage this? Do you think there is any chance I could return it?

It's probably from your detergent.

I have had things like this happen with brand-new articles of cotton clothing in the wash - I assume the detergent sat in that area of the fabric for a while before mixing with any water and had reacted strangely with the fabric dye. In my experience this hasn't been reversible.

Try returning the comforter as "defective merchandise" since you followed the directions on the care label.

Dark blue --> purple sounds like bleach got in there somehow. Did you use a shared washing machine - in a laundromat, in the basement of an apt. building, etc.?

Probably a little bleach residue in the washing machine. I've had it happen to shirts and stuff before.

Usually things like detergent sitting there too long or a flaw in the materials will leave large splotches or more amorphous losses of color, where bleach will cause splotches.
