Hello,

I’m going to start by saying I don’t know much of anything about style so I came here for some help from the experts, after all don’t they say a smart man gets advice from smarter men.

Anyways, I’m getting married soon and starting to look for what I’m going to wear. Originally I was planning on a dark blue Tux, the wedding is very formal.
But during my searches, I’ve been finding very good looking “tuxedo dinner jackets” and was wondering if it’s ok to wear one for the wedding. Can I wear a lightly patterned dark blue “dinner jacket” with black tuxedo pants? Or do I need dark blue tuxedo pants to go with it?

Or should I avoid the dinner jacket all together and just get a complete matching tuxedo?

Thanks for your time and patience with someone as ignorant to the ways of fashion as myself.

If your wedding is in the evening, why not? I'd wear it with black striped trousers and a black bow tie.

What's the dinner jacket look like? I've been looking for a nice one.

If it's your wedding, you can wear whatever you and your bride-to-be decide is okay.

Having said that, generally speaking, you would acquire either a black "dinner suit" or a midnight blue "dinner suit", which is a jacket, matching trousers, and possibly a waistcoat. Once you have trousers, you can wear whatever kind of dinner jacket you like. But in all cases, you will need the right trousers. Trousers that go with a dinner jacket have specific details, primarily no cuff, and have the outside leg seam covered in either satin silk or grosgrain silk.

So, if you had the right sort of black trousers, you could, indeed, wear your lightly patterned dinner jacket with them.
