Ben Franklin Effect

When we do a person a favor, we tend to like them more as a result. This is because we justify our actions to ourselves that we did them a favor because we liked them.

Benjamin Franklin himself said, "He that has once done you a kindness will be more ready to do you another than he whom you yourself have obliged."

The reverse effect is also true, and we come to hate our victims, which helps to explain wartime atrocities. We de-humanize the enemy, which decrease the dissonance of killing and other things in which we would never normally indulge.

To rid the pungent odor of garlic from your fingers, simply rub your fingers on some sort of kitchen tool made of stainless steal under running water.

Walmart's $4 stainless steel knife rusts (brown spots). Apparently to acquire the category of stainless steel, the requirements are pretty low and of course Walmart's just made the cut :/

The Qwerty keyboard was designed to allow sales men to demonstrate its use by typing out 'typewriter' to perspective sales.

True? or another urban myth?

I think the qwerty keyboard was designed because a normal abc etc arrangement would jam a lot when you type quickly because the swingy army bits for letters that were commonly used in sequence were close to each other. The qwerty arrangement means that they would be on alternating sides, and not jam as often.

I think. Or something like that.

Also, the only way that Bill and Ted know Rufus's name is because they were told it by their future selves.

DYK that in nearly every advertisement for watches, the time is set to 10:10?

Reasons for this are debatable, but probably involve:
(a) most watch decoration is at either the 12:00, 3:00 or 6:00 position, so that placing the hands at the 10:00 and 2:00 position does not block important aspects of the face design, and/or
(b) the 10:00 and 2:00 configuration of the hands creates a pleasing 'smile-like' configuration to the watch face.
