Guys, what would be the proper (in the golden era of menswear sense) outfit for a day in the rowing club, watching the competition, not taking part in it of course. Morning coat is good for horse races, would it be ok. for rowing races?

I don't know what part of the world you live in, but I live with a short distance of the Long Beach Marine Stadium, on which is situated a rowing center. Rowing competitions of all sorts are held at the Marine Stadium with great frequency. I can assure you that the attire among the spectators is extremely casual. Even a sport coat, much less a morning coat, would be overdressing.

I know that in England a few rowing competitions are gala social events, and that would be another matter.

Yes, yes, I know this art work. some of the guys at it appear to be students or competitors. What about the rest? I see most are wearing boaters. Is that a rule? I understand the non competitors should be wearing blazers or weekend suits. I'm getting it right?

I can tell you at Henley regatta today the "correctly" dressed people wear blazers and club boating jackets, and I think people wore more or less the same in the 30s, it was a sporting day so I am sure people wore sporting clothes or "weekend suits" and robust footgear.
