I have a chance to buy this Kiton suit at a good price, but as I don't know much about the brand (and buying online) I don't know what year it's from / whether it's a desirable cut. I'd like to make sure it's not too boxy or dated-looking. Anyone experienced with Kiton who might be able to estimate when it was made / whether it'll look reasonably modern?

The only things I can say for certain is that Kiton is pretty much the epitome of un-boxy suits so I wouldn’t be worried about boxiness the same way I would with an old Brioni. They have never really to my knowledge had much padding in the shoulders. Old Kiton’s have aged much more gracefully than old Brioni’s.

The store, Möller & Schaar, is still open for business in Frankfurt.

It appears to be a 3-roll-2 button suit (very common for Kiton both new and old) but it’s hard to definitely tell - I’d have to see the 3rd lapel buttonhole. If it’s visible on the lapel it’s a 3 roll 2. If it’s not, and it’s visible on the jacket, it’s a “hard 3” button suit. If it’s the latter, that would certainly date the suit as no maker I have ever shopped at recently (and I keep up with pretty much all the major Italian brands) offers hard 3 button suits any longer in the past 10-15 years. 3 button suits can sometimes look good on a taller guy but it’s hard to not find one that is very dated nowadays. I do own a couple of very nice hard 3 suits in my collection (not Kiton, mine are D’Avenza and Sartoria Castangia) but I don’t wear them much, I prefer 3-r-2 or 2 button suits.

Hope this helps. An additional image that shows the 3rd lapel buttonhole position would help. Maybe someone else can chime in with additional knowledge.

Also the trousers look to have double pleats which imo would make it at least 20-25 years old.
