anyone have any experience with Daniel George in Chicago in regards to a bespoke suit?

I've used WW chan before and have been very happy but came across these guys and wanted to give it a shot. Anyone have any advice?

As an initial matter, I believe that it is fairly safe to say that Daniel George is not "bespoke." Rather, I think it would be safer to say that his work is either MTM or MTO. The price, for one, is a dead giveaway. A bespoke suit sewn by an expert tailor is undoubtedly going to run you more than $895.00. I would similarly be surprised if his garments were fully canvassed.

Here is a description of the process:

"We will schedule an appointment at our Chicago office. Most initial appointments take approximately an hour to 90 minutes depending on your needs. We request that you wear (or bring) your best fitting suit or sport coat.

The time will be spent discussing your current wardrobe, fit concerns, taking measurements, selecting fabrics and choosing design details. We require a deposit of fifty percent upon order placement.

Approximately 6 weeks later (4 weeks for shirts), we will schedule your fitting and arrive with your new garments in-tow. After determining fit and your satisfaction, your adjusted garments are delivered the following week."

Personally, I am unimpressed by the cut and styling. However, cut and styling are subjective, and you may like it. Personally, i see a whole lot of issues. The balancing, for one, seems to be WAY off.

To put it mildly, you have better options in Chicago.

Personally, I use Chris Despos, and I am beyond content with my decision (see my sig). I believe that he is unequivocally one of the best - if not the best - tailor in the United States (in fact, a more proper comparison would be to tailors in France, Italy, England). However, his suits are certainly priced higher than WW Chan.

Other than that, it all depends on what you want to spend. I do not understand the obsession with custom in the sub-$2,000 - even sub-$3,000 - range. There is plenty of RTW in that price range that offers fantastic value. To that end, my current favorite is Eidos - from forum affiliate NMWA - which fits me great off the rack.
