A friend has been listening to this guy for years and recently I started listening to his podcast while making dinner. I think, in general he gives good relationship advice, but he's kind of a huge douche when it comes to politics and religion. He seems uber liberal about everything, but he consistently makes generalized comments about religious people, and republicans that I find ironic given his "accept everything and everyone" mindset. As with many uber liberals I find in general he is very "accept everything and everybody (except for anybody who believes in God, or has differing economic and social priorities)". I find it completely insensitive and judgmental. But yeah, he gives good relationship advice.

He's stupidly outspoken in a tough crowd, FWIW. His point-of-view is young and lack of tolerance.

He seems like a giant douche, but he is right on Santorum. I've met Santorum and he's an even bigger douchefuck. I wouldn't mind if they had a douchefuck convention and both died when the building collapses on them.

I think he gives great relationship advice in general. I just think he shares the same traits as a lot of ultra liberals, which is we should be accepting of everybody and everything except Christians or people with differing political priorities.

There's something really annoying about uber-liberals. They never act according to what they say - they always complain, always criticize, never try and get along with people of different stance, and most of them were even disrespectful, if anything.

Yes, former senator for Pennsylvania who didn't live in Pennsylvania. He's an asshole.
Funny guy, huh? A PA senator who doesn't live in PA. I especially LOL on his statement regarding Pope Francis and climate change. Anybody who went to school with this guy must be very embarrassed.

Isn't Savage the guy who had a contest to see who could come up with the best gay sex-related noun/verb/adj that didn't really have a specific name, and the winner was christened 'Santorum'?

Yes. Santorum means "the frothy mix of **** and lube that is a byproduct of ********."

Used to see his column occasionally when I'd pick up the alternative weekly waiting for a train or something. My GF named it as a podcast she listened to. Had no idea he had been doing podcasts for so long...gave some of them a listen (kind of like an improved loveline).

Your assessment seems right. Even though I mostly agree with his general thoughts on religion and republicans...it seems grating every time he brings it up. Seems inappropriate for an advice show, and also seems useless as far as getting a message across. If you scream at people about being wrong, they are just going to write you off...if you ignore their vitriol and and keep presenting sane, rational advice and opinions, they might actually listen.

But I dunno...I didn't grow up as an openly gay person in the 70s and 80s and I don't run a nonprofit that aims to curtail suicide among gay youth...I suppose if you saw people dying after persecution from those groups (and experienced it yourself) you might have a bit of hatred stored deep within your heart.
