Dalton Fit Question

I recently went to my local AE store to try on the Dalton boot and was disappointed that every size I tried on the tongue did not lay flat against my leg when tied. I tried 4 different size/width combinations, and they all buckled when tied like it was not cut right. The SA, who is the Asst Mgr, said that is the way they are made. I've since tried on others, such as the C&J Islay, where the tongue laid flat when tied.

Have others here had the same experience with the Dalton? I'd really prefer to get the Dalton for half the cost of the C&J.
