Don’t really want to offend the “Alden Army.” Suffice it to say, however, that I think Alden lasts are inelegant, unsophisticated, boring, and that their general product lines lack innovation and diversity. I have one pair of Alden cordovan derbies that I’ve worn twice and only because my wife bought them for me thinking they were good shoes.

Alden certainly has many lasts that are inelegant and unsophisticated, but knowing your fondness for Forest I think you'd enjoy Aberdeen. It's very close to forest, but slightly longer and roomier. Alden also has lasts (Barrie for eg.) that look blobby on a shoe, but work great on a boot.

I know it's a matter of personal taste, fit and preference, so I won't try to sway you. Personally I feel lucky to have so many great options in this price range (+/- $200) with C&J, Carmina, Alden, and EB.

If anyone is interested, I am selling my pair of 8UK (335 Last), C&J Dundee in Brown Shell. These were part of the first MTO for this boot.

Its a pity that none of the CJ GMTOS are flying. Dundee would have been fantastic in Brown or Whiskey!
Wish these were 8.5 UK

The makeup looks superb! Is the price up to date? If I recall correctly, even standard cordovan boots (Harlech) are priced at £785 (including VAT). I'd expect GMTO price to be in £875-900 range?

Price seemed a little too low to me too. I thought maybe because it was a lower boot.
