I have a first generation pair of C&J wingtips for Ralph Lauren (way before RLPL) that I got at Barneys in the early 90s. They have developed the most fabulous patina and are still going strong. I've had them reheeled and resoled, but that's it.

C&J can be overlooked in these parts, but they make a hell of a shoe that takes and holds a perfect mirror shine.

I have never, ever come across anything before or since in which I could even dream of wearing a UK 8. But for some bizarre reason I can't even get my foot into an EG 7.5/8 (UK/US size) let alone a 7/7.5 size. I have tried and dearly wished I could wear my usual UK size of 7 in an EG.

Why?

Because APortnoy wears EG 8/8.5Es!!!!

This is not surprising at all. I wear C&J 337 UK7E, EG 606 UK7.5E, and EG 888 UK7.5E feels tight (though it should still be OK). In my experience shoe sizing is very specific to the last.

I concur. I need a different size for a different last within the same C&J brand (eg, 7E in the 341 lasted Westfield, 7 1/2E in the more rounded Whitehall 330 last).

This complicates remote internet sourcing as there´s a risk in buying without trying a shoe on first.

I have 14 pairs of Crockett & Jones, only one pair from the eponymous label, while the vast majority were sold under the Polo and Dunhill/Poulsen Skone label. I haven't had any problems with any of my C&J to date. Lasting, as other posters have noted, varies extemsively--the 337, 348, and 341 being the most elongated. I personally love the "D" width American offerings.

Comparing durability and quality between C&J and Edward Green is about a 100% premium for me (e.g. I would pay $200-225 for C&J benchgrade, ~$300ish for HG, and $450-500ish for EG). EG definitely look nicer and wear slightly better, but I dont feel as bad when I kick the occasional curb with my Grapevinehill purchases.

The sad thing is, I remember when you first bought them and posted them. Glad that they are still working out for you!

Norcal's a hustler. Those prices are for warehouse sales/ebay/website closeouts, etc.

I have around a half dozen pairs of C&J benchgrade and really like them. They've held up quite well, given a lot of wear, and cost me no more than $150 a pair.
