Does anyone have any opinions on these? Acceptable or not? Does anyone know of a good place to buy ones that aren't some rodeo design or have animals or stuff like hat?
Thanks

The gaudy kind are now mainly worn semi-ironically by Southern mall gangsters. The plainer antique kind are worn by thrift store hipsters. Either way, thats a no go.

I dunno man, unless you're a cowboy, you're gonna look like a MUARK.

But I think the hipsters have moved on to Indian Jewelry, so go nuts.

It depends on the buckle and what you are wearing with it. If it's too big and shiny(think WWF title belt) then run away. Vintage ones are usually better. I've got an unusual but cool brass Buffalo bill's wild west show souvenir buckle that I wear all the time. The right western buckle looks great with the right jeans and shirt. Don't listen to the fashion nazis here(No offense fashion nazi's)

the newer "urban" buckles are crap. Vintage is the way to go. You can find any kind of design, and with a nice patina so its not all shiny down there and will look natural on a worn-in leather belt.

I've never seen them look good on anyone not even my uncles who actually particpate in real rodeos and do the whole western thing.

i really want a KISS buckle.

but i still toy around with the idea of buying levis 646 and and 70's adidas'.

i think if you find one that isn't too insanely ornate or large you are alright. i used to wear buckled belts all the time, they certainly don't fit into the prescribed aesthetic around these parts... but that isn't always a bad thing.

with the right fit it wouldn't look bad, but with an SF approved fit you are going to look like a douche. your jeans need some flare, and you need 3/4 sleeves and maybe some ankle boots...

just watch 2-3 episodes of that seventies show, or boogie nights and you ought to have enough 'inspiration' to make it work.

also, don't let people lead you to believe you can't make stuff from the past look good ... for instance Label King rocks the **** out of late 60's and 70's suits and cuban heels.

it can be done.

They look fine on an authentic cattle rustler, yet I see them only on Southern cowboy-wannabes and white gangsta-wannabe teeny boppers.

Not saying it can't look good, but 99% of the time it looks like hell.

I wear a logo belt buckle from the construction company I work for. That used to be a tradition for decades but now you'd be hard pressed to find many construction companies that had their own belt buckles.
