Cotton handkerchief as pocket square?

I've got a linen pocket square that is huge and a real pain ********** to fold into a TV fold. I also have a lot of monogrammed, white cotton handkerchiefs that can be folded nicely into a TV fold without showing the monogram. Is there anything wrong with using a white cotton handkerchief as a pocket square? Thanks.

No. Knock yourself out. I think a lot of people do it. I don't even see a problem if you allow the monogram to show, assuming it's not tacky and can be done in such a way so it doesn't look forced.

No problemo. That said, I do prefer linen.

Yes, I prefer linen, too, but I do use a handrolled cotton Brooks hanky from some years back sometimes (their new cotton ones aren't handrolled).

As I am sure Faded will point out, you could have used the search feature to find a thread discussing pocket squares and , no doubt, this very topic.

Of course, he would then go on to suggest a white athletic sock, preferably used, be stuck in your pocket as a superior alternative when a white square is to be used.

Please don't... we are having a lot of ungentlemany behaviour on the forum recently... this is not something we can avoid as the forum is open to everyone that wants to join.

But what you can do is to keep your standards high and be ( or learn from the best examples ) a true gentleman.

A utilitarian pocket square?
