I think they're a nice idea for back entrances (edmorel alert!) or mudrooms but I would never want one in my formal entry. Depends on what kind of house you have, I suppose. That second one you've shown there is an abomination, btw.

I've seen some really cool Victorian and Arts and Crafts hall trees, but the generic Crate & Barrel one in the first picture is lame, Douglas is dead on about the second one.

Google images let me down here but I will look or one with some character. Seems there are a lot of auctions in town that have them from my initial search. We have this awkward space behind our entry door that is wasted but a Hall Tree would work perfect there.

Because sometimes I want to sit down to put my shoes on by the door and not do the 1 footed hop to do it. Not to mentioned my overly excited dog when has to pee is licking my face and I'd fall over. And no I don't want a hang it all and a bench...

Thanks to SG for the lighting recommendation. Got the Bestlite installed today and really liking it.

Sweet! I've had the floor lamp for about ten years, it is one of my favorite things. I have recently been thinking about doing the wall mount as well. The knob can get very hot, so watch out!

Love the flexibility (literally) of this lamp designed by Peter Stathis. The ball and socket joints provide more movement than any lamp I've seen, except maybe the ones made of flexible tubes. It's pretty too. And very stable.
