I might hope that you have at least seen pictures (perhaps even on this or other fora) of some bespoke examples that you would find to your liking.

When I visited the Cleverley Temple at the Royal Arcade, I observed the bespoke samples in detail...a few of the squared and chiseled lasted shoes caught my eye. But most of their designs and last shapes were uninspiring...and their RTW & semi-bespoke (non A.C.) were not to my liking. I prefer the bespoke last shapes from G&G instead. Ultimately George Glasgow introduced me to a last shape that he was about to use on the then newly introduced A.C....and I really liked...so I bought it

On a side note, I found the bespoke samples at Fosters to be much more inspirational

Naturally I fainted repeatedly every time I handled the plethora of iconic side gussetted shoes (as pictured in Flusser's entry on Cleverley) and of course, the faux laced lazyman shoes.

I do want to add back in February of 2009, I just walked into Cleverley unannounced. The front store man was not helpful, but then George Glasgow came down. He accomodated me and I felt comfortable then. When I had met him months earlier in L.A., I was not moved to buy his product. I was wearing my G&G Thorpe boots....Glasgow called down Carnera, who had me take them off, he examined them, and said kind words about Tony Gaziano and that he liked the quality of the boot's construction. Glasgow said he can construct a shoe to rival what I had on...I took him at his word, and the final product surpassed my expectations. I appreciated the fact that Carnera was willing to acknowledge the work of his competitor in a gentleman like manner.

While one can certainly think of them as competitors now, I sincerely doubt that's how John Carnera views the relationship. Tony Gaziano developed greatly whilst he was at Cleverley and he certainly learned a great deal from John. I'm sure John was pleased that his former colleague is doing well -- both in terms of his craftsmanship and his business success.

I look forward to seeing some of these side gusset bespoke shoes in the flesh. Some on their website look very sharp
