Cleaning laptop screen

My 4-year-old has discovered what a wonderful toy my laptop can be and loves to play computer games on it. Of course, now I have all these precious little fingerprints all over the screen. Can anyone tell me what to use to safely clean a laptop screen?

You can buy a special laptop cleaner for $10 or more, but a 1:1 ratio of water/rubbing alcohol is just fine. Use nothing coarser than an old worn out t-shirt. Do not use windex, it will turn your screen yellow over time.

And do not - repeat: do not - spray anything directly onto the screen. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with whatever you're using. I've seen a couple of nasty little electrical fires and shorts caused by people cleaning their displays.

There are also these two packs -- one wet and one dry -- of cleaning wipes that are sold at Camera Stores. People usually use them for the LCD screens on DV Cam's, etc. I use them but they're expensive and perhaps they're overkill. I also use computer screen spray (which is probably a rip-off too) and a lint-free wipe or a cotton handkerchief.

I use window cleaner spray. Spray it on a rag and wipe off.

Spraying directly on the screen can leave permanent marks when the liquid goes around the edge of the display and creeps between the glass plates. I didn't know about the fire hazard and I would have guessed that that could be more of an issue with CRTs as they have very high voltages inside.

At my office we have "Endust for Electronics, Anti-Static Wipes."

I think you can get them at pretty much any office supply place (OfficeMax, Staples, etc.)

They do a good job.
