Cleaning advice for suede shoes

Hi,

Today I found a very nice pair of JM Weston richelieu in dark brown suede for just $8 in a thrift store ..

I need to clean the suede (some parts are a little shiny or glossy). Any advice on how to do that ? Can I do something to reduce the glossy part ?

Try rubbing gently with a pencil eraser (not artgum). Despite all the advice about liquid suede cleaners and suede brushes, I find this works best on dark brown suede (which does develop glossy spots with age).

Get yourself a good wire brush -- one made specifically for suede shoes. I found mine at a dry cleaner that also does shoe repairs. They had them next to the insoles, shoe polish, etc. The wire brush works absolute magic -- I got a pair of Edward Green dark brown suede monkstrap shoes on EBay for $50 (used, obviously). After some careful work with the brush, the shoes look brand new. A wire brush will also help get out any old dirt that's worked into the napp.
