Cleaning a pair of AE Broadstreets

Got a brand new pair of Broadstreets, but I noticed that the dye in the AE-issued (velvet?) shoe bags rubbed off a bit on the white.

AE advises to send them back, because there's nothing I can do to clean them that won't also remove the finish. However, I'm sure someone here knows a trick.

So, how do I clean smooth white leather? Baking soda? Toothpaste? The offending stain is small, and faintly pinkish colour, but I know it's there.

And before anyone asks, I've stopped using the AE bags - got a pair of cloth Ferragamo bags.

Help.

Post photos of the shoes here. Let's have a look.
And include some glamour shots for fun please.
There are a few tricks, but it's better if we can see photos before you engage in a potentially dangerous endeavour.

I may not have to resort to potentially dangerous cleaning methods. I mentioned this to AE, and they've offered to clean them for free, given that I haven't even worn them yet. Score another point for customer service.

I'll still post glamour pics, tho.

PS - Went to Harry's to check out the new AEs, and I saw the Bayfield boot in person. It looks about 200% better than the stock photos - it's actually something I might want to wear.

The Lombard (executive line), and the tan grained Park Ave are also winners, IMO.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
