I just purchased these Church's custom grade wingtips. I'm pretty happy with the style of them and color, I do think they will need a sole repair. But for $50 I think I did alright.

I'm just starting my 'nice' shoe collection. First purchase was a new pair of Allen Edmonds park ave in black, then a Allen Edmonds Thayer black monk strap, now these.

Am I going in the right direction?

My dear friend a quick review of the posts in this forum will reveal to you that Church's are the work of the Devil (which after all wears Prada) and that even at $10 you would be overpaying because in SF: Church's = bad is a matter of principle, not a matter of fact/$ I direct you to the Carmina shoe Appreciation thread. These Carmina are SF approved and so miles away from any Church's you may ever see. If you cant get Carmina then go for last year favorites like Edward Green, Cricket and Jones or that mythical beast teh Vass Or better don't listen to what anyone who has more than 20 posts will tell you. That is what I do PS- Look great for $50 but what do I know? after all they are not Carmina :slayer:

Wtf is this above post? Church's are good shoes. They are not even in the same category as Carmina, Vass, EG and the like so it is pointless to compare them. For $50 these are good shoes. The Prada acquisition has no effect on quality of their classic lines, only on expanding some of their designs.

Fair enough if they are crap now (the new line post prada-buying) but I think these are made before the acquisition, and are from the custom line, not the diffusion lines. They don't look like corrected grain, and for $50, plus $80 for a refurbishing, can you think of a better pair of burgundy wings for $130?

Allen Edmonds McAllisters are $325 or so, plus I like the broguing better on these.
