I don't think being a professor as your main job with side consulting will provide enough to buy a McLaren Senna. Teaching would need to be a side gig like my parents' friend who owns a bunch of Lotuses.some engineer professor does enough consulting gig that I can think of, but not sure how high it would push your salary up
