not just for my dress shirts, but for all my clothing (jeans, t-shirts, etc)

i've read that Rowenta is a popular name, but that doesnt necessarily means its a good choice.

What do you use? (include model # please)

Drop the few extra dollars and get the Rowenta. Make sure it is made in Germany, not China (they have both). The thing is excellent.

I use the Rowenta Advancer -- good temperature control and volume of steam. I've also concluded to always use distilled water, despite the manufacturer's claims otherwise. Two prior Rowenta's have gone China Syndrome while ironing dress shirts. They were replaced without charge. Thus far, zero issues on distilled.

hmmm, seems the Sunbeam 4238 or Black and Decker Advantage may be the way to go for the price point.

here in Canada i've only seen Rowenta's from $130 to $160.

+1 for the Rowenta Advancer. I've been using mine daily for over a year without any problems.

The T-Fal Aquaspeed is very solid. We upgraded to one a few years ago, and we're delighted with it. Heats quickly, glides perfectly.

Funny you used reliable in your question, I just purchased a Reliable V95 Digital Velocity steam iron and couldn't be happier.

I've had a couple of Rowenta's in the past & they've been disappointing.

If you do some research you'll find that a dry steam generator iron coupled with a vacuum ironing board will yield professional results - but it will set you back big $$$.

Reliable makes both professional & consumer irons - the V95 has an internal steam generator that makes steam independent of the soleplate temperature, which is key to getting great results.

The iron lists for $150, but I got mine on eBay from Premier Appliance for $99, no sales tax & free shipping. The thing kicks ass - I hand wash all my shirts, Borrelli, Barba, etc & this iron REALLY works great!

Hope this helps.
