Can I wear a sport coat with a turtleneck to a restaurant that requests gentlemen to wear jackets?

My plan is to hit up several nice restaurants when I travel around France. As I want to reduce the amount of clothing I bring with me, I'd love to get away with a sport coat and a turtleneck combo. Will it be okay for the establishments that requests jackets but not formal wear?

Sports coat is fine, that's what most men use to go out for dinner in Paris. People normally use a shirt without a tie but no one will say anything about the turtleneck.

This will be sufficient. Even if the intend of the dress code was to have gents wear a combo of dress trousers and blazer / sportcoat or suit, hardly anyone would adhere to this intend. Most common version is jacket + shirt + some trousers. Most versatile option would be to bring a blazer or navy sportscoat.

Yes, if any establishment wants trade it has never yet been proved sensible to turn people away.

What's the norms for da ladies? I am going to be with my mom who is 60 years young. Is typical cocktail attire okay (a dress, may be a blazer)?

You can of course wear a rollneck under a jacket. Certainly makes for a handsome look but is your luggage so severely restricted that you can't fit in even one shirt?

The norm for the ladies? I have never seen a written Dress requirement for women at any restaurant. Probably because women have a tendency to dress well without being foreced ... this being said your mom will be perfectly fine in a dress or a blazer and not look out of place at any restaurant.
