I do not know what profession or occupation you are in, but you obviously have not witnessed the trend of certain major companies actually nixing the business casual dress code and re-installing 'business formal' in recent years after the implosion of the tech bubble, i.e. in banks, lawfirms, etc.

Also, "[t]his idea that you command respect by being well dressed is so outdated" couldn't be further from the reality that many of us happen to inhabit.

Lastly, I think it bears observation that many of us here have managed to engage in civilized debate without descending to using expletives. If I may paraphrase, "you command respect by being [civil and courteous to one's fellow men]", a notion which continues to remain relevant to this day.

In my world, convincing someone to supersize an order doesn't count a closing a deal.

There is no trend. At least not one worth taking notice. The majority of companies these days are casual or business casual. There isn't this explosion of companies telling their employees to go back to suits. Look I am not saying suits don't have their place and as I said, I will wear one because hey I am on Style Forum too and I love clothes.

I just have to laugh at some of the people here who acknowledge that everyone they work with is casual including their ******* boss and they are still coming to work in their best suit when you don't need to and it's not required for the company to do business (at least on a daily basis). It's douchebaggery and you can still be very well dressed in business casual or even casual.

There are lot of pretentious douchebags here simply because they are pretentious douchebags in real life. Nothing to do with their interest in clothing.

Someone with bad attitude is going to carry that no matter what their hobby is.

Come on, when people are debating the quality of a brand name white dress shirt, it's *********** and pretentious.

On the contrary.

It's pretentious if they're just debating about the brand. Debating the quality is intelligent and rather important for the rest of us.

Some of us don't have the money or time to wear expensive things till they wear out on us, it's better to learn how to spend money on things that last. People are just sharing experiences, just like car enthusiasts might talk about gas mileage.

You got issues if you feel you need to judge people on their hobbies. Do you have one yourself?
