Brown or black shoes for groom's mid blue suit

Hi,

For my wedding I decided to go for a mid blue tropical wool suit from SS with a white medium spread collar and French cuffs and I was thinking, which pair of shoes would fit the best in regard to my suit choice and occassion? I own both black toecap oxfords and dark brown quarter brogue shoes.

The location is in an Asian country with a tropical climate (hence tropical wool fabric choice) and the wedding Mass will be held in the early afternoon and the reception will start at 6 pm (and ends beyond midnight ;)🍷🥂🍾 ).

In case it would make a difference, I'm thinking of making it a three piece by getting a matching waistcoat in same colour/fabric through the SS custom option so I can take off the jacket later but still have a classy layer to go over my white shirt.

Honestly, I think either is fine. Black is certainly more classic but it’s also a wedding and maybe your guests and your bride don’t want to look at you as though you just left a meeting at work.

The brown shown is dark enough to be completely appropriate.

Congratulations and good luck.

I'm going black cap with my blue groom suit. Honestly do you want people looking at your feet at your wedding? As non-descript as possible was my thinking. I opted for classic navy though, despite being in a warm location (SoCal). Will also go with classic wedding tie.

Congrats on the engagement!

You could even wear a lighter brown which would be a bit more rakish yet still within reasonable bounds. It's really a matter of personal taste. I have a mid-blue (aka Air Force blue) suit of Minnis fresco which I sometimes wear with mid-brown shoes in summer...

As for the waistcoat, makes sense to me.

Thanks for the replies and insights! Would dark brown shoes still match if I'd make it a three piece suit (with French cuff shirt), given that a three piece is more formal while (dark) brown shoes are regarded more casual?

Mid blue has always seemed an odd color to me. I prefer navy.

I work in a conservative office environment so normally I only get to wear either navy and charcoal suits with black toecap oxfords, thought of getting a slightly lighter suit to make it more 'festive' (light colours don't match well with my skin tone but mid colours still do).

Yes, dark brown shoes are fine with that suit.
