Braces and tie: how close is too close a match?

Is there such a thing as too close a match when it comes to the colors of one's braces and ones' tie? I'm not talking about a matching set (a la Office Space) but purchased completely separately. I have a pair of braces from Brooks Brothers that are dark green and navy and a Kiton rep stripe tie, the main colors of which are the same shades of navy and green. The tie also has thin light blue stripes as well.

Is it possible for them to be "too close" such that it looks like I'm attempting to match or, worse, purchased the two together? Would I be better off using a pair of plain navy with that tie? I don't have a pic handy but perhaps can post one later.

To be honest you shouldn't be walking around without a jacket showing your braces all the time anyway.

The traditional school of thought is that you are already committing a faux pas if others can see your braces at all, never mind the color.

No, I leave my jacket on, the only time braces will be visible is if I open my jacket for easier access to one of its inside pockets or the inside pockets of my trousers. So they'd be visible for a few seconds only. But, if I weren't concerned about those few seconds, I really wouldn't belong here anyways, now would I?
