Further observations on buying clothes, this time Boden! I think Boden is a bit like Marmite in that you hate it or love it. This year I got a mac from their menswear range and was very impressed with it, good strong buttons, sewn on tight, nice tartan lining adding warmth, a belt that had metal buckle and not cheap plastic ones.

I've also bought some lightweight wool jumpers from them. Excellent value for money and they have been great for this weather to add an extra layer of warmth without being too hot when I'm in a pub etc.

I have tried their cardigans and, like any wool product, they will shrink when handwashed. So do bear that in mind.

Overall I find Boden much better quality than many high street names and well worth the money. Their designs are changing each season and not stuffy or boring.

I like Boden too. However their wool shrinks too much IME but buying a size up is enough to get round this.

Like many good middle market retailers they are going the way of all flesh - ie their quality isn't what is once was and their ranges are significantly fewer in the menswear than three years ago. ( No cord trousers, no smart trousers, no suits - except moleskin, no smart shirts, ties, shoes, fewer shirts in their casual ranges etc)

They are still good but seem to be going less for men interested primarily in quality and then fashion and instead for men who are primarily interested in a certain look. Don't get me wrong, I like their look but hanker for the good old days!

I just washed a Boden jumper and noticed it shrank a fair bit, not best pleased with that!
