aaaaaah I understand now... this is just fascinating all these people talking about what Blacksmith's are actually communicating through some kind of time machine device as it appears they must be in the middle ages or something :p

I may be off the mark but don't Smiths usually shoe the horse as well as make the shoe? As in hammer the nails in and select the correct size shoe?

well someone definitely has to nail those suckers to the hooves. but I bet mass market horseshoes have gained considerable market share.

Farriers don't make the shoe anymore, but they shape it to the horse's hoof. You get RTW shoes that are then tailored to the horse's needs.

Farriers don't normally make the shoe anymore, but they shape it to the horse's hoof. You get RTW shoes that are then tailored to the horse's needs.

Farriers can make some damn good money, but it's tough work and you always have to worry about getting kicked in the head by a horse.

Friend of mine manages a major university's equestrian team and is pretty up on this kind of detail. It was kind of fun listening to her talk about their "blacksmith" and "ferrier." It was like a conservation from a different century.

+1 Farriers make pretty decent coin. Although you are a farrier. I wouldn't want to do the work.

Gale and I talked about this last night, lol.

Nope. People shoing horses are called farriers. Blacksmiths still exist.

There can't be any real money in that, it seems. It would be a cool hobby though.

I do seem to remember one poster talking about hand-made knives in Fine Living.
