My black tie wear is mostly according to the rules. The deviations are that I have single pleated trousers and I wear highly polished black captoes instead of patent / pumps.
Next time I'm getting side vents instead of unvented.

Stilmacher's recent WAYWRN post in black-tie was especially impressive. Unfortunately I've yet to be invited to a black-tie event, though I hope one day I will have excuse to buy a good dinner-suit.

Two of me for discussion. MTM Samuelsohn, 1 button peak with grosgrain facings, low 3 button vest, fish tail trousers. Only outside of traditional element is that the lining for the jacket and the back of the vest is black with red & gold Damask silk that I bought in Damascus.
Second is of me again (can better see peak lapels, and my best man. Everyone in the wedding party had their own tuxedo and I allowed them to wear them (even though my best man wore a 3 button notch with too long sleeves…), that was one of the things I was adamant about. I hate having to rent a crappy tux when I have my own just so I can “match”…
