Best way to file my own taxes?

I need to file my taxes. It's all very simple since I don't have a family or mortgage. What is the best way to file my taxes and ensuring that I file everything correctly? I've always relied on accountants, but since I moved to NYC recently, I don't have a good one I can go to yet.

Turbotax. Easy, cheap, and it guides you through the whole thing. If you don't have a complicated return, I've found their software really easy, and they often find some random deductions/credits you may not know. You'll pay about 10x's more for an accountant, without much better service. Obviously, if your return is complicated, it's different... but yours sounds relatively simple. Which version of turbotax do you use? They have different versions. The free one seems to fit my needs.

the 'free' one isn't free anymore, i ended up paying like $60 for state and federal

Start with the free one, and if you have complicated things, it will recommend different versions for you. Probably, though, you can just stick with the free or relatively free (like $20) one.

Just start the online process and it will guide you through it. Seriously, it's really simple to use.

I use HRblock.com which I am sure is just as easy as TurboTax.

The thing I like most about it is that I can go in person to physical locations if I have questions but the online email service is pretty prompt too. Always replied within a day.

did i miss something? they arent mailing us the 1040 and 540 forms this year? can we still pick them up at the local post office? (cant find anything on this info and called post office and of course just a prerecorded message that doesnt go anywhere)

I have used Taxact.com for the last couple of years. Pretty painless, pretty cheap and I already got my refund for this year.

be warned - it can be a pain ********** to get past filings off turbotax, have to use their ****** proprietary software - so print out your copies when you file

assuming no student loans, mortgages, etc. the free one should suffice.

if your employer is big enough, get a W-2 and pop that sucker in and you're done in 10 minutes or less.

I used H&R Block online. Free e-file if you're AGI is less than ~$58k if it's above it costs $58 to efile for state and Federal. I was done within an hour.
