Belted trench coat on a 20 year old. Thoughts?

I wore a trench at 20. Always got compliments. A few years on (less than a decade though) I still do -- just yesterday, in fact. And bBoy, though I'm hardly built, no one has ever dared to tango with me.

OP, I suggest the classic khaki or navy rather than black, which can get negative comments with the compliments. And since the negatives are along Columbine, though these days more Virginia Tech lines, it's probably best avoided.

By that same token, I very much doubt someone with your knowledge of fashion/art would be asking about wearing a particular item. I guess this is why I disagree with just buying black when in doubt. Color does a lot more for most people than black would.

I get your point but I would say that black is sought after precisely because removing colour brings attention to those three aspects, which is why it is, for example, Yohji Yamamoto's colour of choice.

You have to have confidence. There is this asian guy next door to me who i don't know but is probably about 19-22 and i see go to class every once in awhile in a grey trench coat. It looks pretty good on him, and he doesn't even wear it with good clothes. Just with whatever. It definitely depends if you can pull it off, but for some reason it looks badass. I wish i had it, but then again, i don't think i'd be able to pull it off as a 21 year old. I'm too baby faced to be able to get away wearing certain things and not look weird.

I know what you're talking about ,and that's why I was considering one in the first place. I think trenches look pretty cool.

I reconsidered my purchase because I already have a coat from f/w 07 and blowing big bucks for 2 coats for this season would be illogical.

The leading contender for my purchase consideration was the nom de guerre trench in grey. I went and tried it on the other day and the fabric turned me off. It was some really itchy type of wool/nylon blend I believe, and my girlfriend hates that so I crossed it off my list.

It was around this time that she talked me into buying her a burberry trench coat. But should she change her mind, 5-6 hoodies and sweaters would probably be a better purchase for me.

Trench is probably gonna be my f/w 08 jacket acquisition. Maybe I can find a cashwool blend. Thanks for all of your replies, really helped me out.
