Belt Loop Placement

Should there always be a belt loop in the center rear of the trousers? I've had trousers where the rear loops were off to the sides of the center seam. Is this a workmanship issue, or is it irrelevant?

And what about trousers with wide belt loops (I've seen those mostly on Italian-made pairs); I don't like the look -- has anyone had loops like those converted?

Data point: Oxxford seems to put them in the center. FWTW.

But I think not having one there makes trouser alterations easier. I know nothing about the history or the reputation of such choices.

Rare to find centred belt loop inmy experience (usually to the sides of centre seam).

As for wider loops, I see this regularly on Italian suits from Armani and Gianni Versace.

Not sure if I like the current trend where you do away with all loops and have a slip-in buckle on both sides a la Richard James of Savile row.

Traditionally, those side buckles were for suspended pants.
