Bad form to deposit wedding cheques ASAP?

Between leaving for the honeymoon and the wedding we deposited all the cheques we got from the wedding. One bounced, but it's likely from a student friend of mine who is probably short on cash. This got me thinking, is it bad form to deposit the money right away? All the people who's cheques did clear will see it happened within days of the wedding.

why would it be? they wrote you a check, you cashed it. it would be worse form to wait a long time and have them forget about it.

the only thing i'd say though is that you had better be prompt now with the thank you cards.

I can see why you might think it looks odd though, like you were waiting when the bank opened on Monday morning.

dont cash your checks!! only do so 1 year later when you need to gift them back the same exact amount when they get wed.

Many couples nowadays seem to be shifting toward "Please, no box gifts" labels on their cards. Dealing with moving all that stuff around is a chore.

Yes. I'm 25 and I've never been to a wedding in my lifetime at which people brought gifts. Weddings are an all money business now. Presents are for showers.

In this economy, it is bad form to hang onto my check forever. Now that I think of it...I won't give a check...I will give a gift card or cash. I remember when giving cash was gauche and now it is in style again. Nothing is better than a few hundred dollar bills slipped into a 10 dollar card.

A check isn't supposed to be written unless money is present to cover it. It's okay to cash as soon as it's received.

When I ran my office, I'd typically deposit checks on Friday after work. It didn't matter if the check arrived in the Monday morning mail ... or in the Friday afternoon mail ... it was deposited on Friday afternoon.
