The best ever line up in my view : Benny Golson Lee Morgan Bobby Timmons - see my choice at Paris St Germain.
Bobby Timmons gospel- tinged piano solos were my favourites.

I've been listening to Moanin' lately. This is really just a stellar album. It is hard to imagine this being made---why were these musicians only active in a certain era? Am I wrong to say that similar jazz artists just aren't putting out this sort of material today (I am not so naive to say that similarly talented musicians don't exist)?

Commercialization of music means that all genres are suffering from a lack of quality. The more complex the talent, the less accessible it is and equally the less viable it is commercially.
