ello, before i register to a computer forum i figured id post this here.
Is it possible for a CD-rom Drive to detect, read, and/or play a DVD disc? Or is this a physical impossibility, and I need to buy an actual DVD-rom drive?

(I installed Daemon tools, which gave me a DVD E: drive, but that doesnt help)

ok thanks hoff

Physically impossible. If you can have a friend read the DVD, burn it to an .iso file and send that you to over the internets, then you can use Daemon Tools to read that ISO from your hard drive and it will act like the original DVD.

follow up answer.. they are interchangable terms. A DVD-Rom is also known as a DVD-Drive.

follow up suggestion.. if you are going to buy one, check this site as the prices are unbearable.

wait... unbeatable.

DVD ROM drives are dirt cheap; I'm not even sure you can get them without the recording function nowadays. Anyway see if you can borrow an external drive from a friend if it's only for occasional use.
