Any recommendations for an inexpensive plain sterling tie bar?

J. Press for $50, or J. Crew for $100... same thing.

I wouldn't trust a low price on silver pieces nowadays.

ebay. I remember picking up one just like that for like $8 including shipping a few years back. It's basically a piece of sterling folded in half, so you should be able to get one fairly cheap. I never actually wore it, I ended up giving it away to a friend, but FWIW it was hall-marked 925.

Just clarify with the seller it's not silver plated and you'll be fine (always look for the hallmark)

Dude, it's $13 an ounce for silver, that thing has to be like 1/4 of an ounce... and the labour in folding it in half and polishing it is pretty minimal. It's all of $4 of silver and 20 minutes of labour. How is $95 even remotely a fair price? $23 for 925 sterling (even then I still think the price is high) http://www.amazon.com/Great-Jewelry-...1893100&sr=1-2

Just make sure to read the sizing info, so you know what you're getting. They're a reliable seller.

The other one may work better as a money clip (as its a bit wider), but i think it will be fine as a tie bar too. Nice to have plan B...

It takes more than that to produce them, fwiw. I work in the jewelry industry and there's a lot of shady stuff that goes on, even more so today. Just saying...
