Thank you. It was an experiment, basically nothing to lose because the shoes have served me well for a decade and have been with me to 4 continents. Turned out to be alright, I might do the same with a few other older pairs eventually.Actually, this should serve as an example for many of what's possible instead of disposing of older barely used but still a high quality item.
You yourself basically transformed these shoes from mehhh to
????. Saves money on an artist doing the job. Saves money on a new pair of shoes.
I don't have IG, but I certainly hope you receive a bunch of likes. Great job ??.

Agreed, I do have an assortment of hand welted and GYW shoes and the latter do hold up quite well. Some, like from Norman Vilalta are finished exquisitely.Based on how they turned out and that they were already at the cobbler, I'd say they will continue to serve dutifully for several more years.
Not the thread for this (because of AM's exceptional construction method), but your shoes do speak of how well a GYW holds up. I'm a HW snob, for the most part anyways, but I don't turn my nose up at a GYW construction.
10 years in and still in service.
A ?? for GYW construction.
Ah yes, I stand corrected.Roma is not GYW, it’s still handwelt right? thought only Aeris is GYW

More importantly, for the sake of the quality menswear space, if affordably priced GYW shoes can charm the general public away from horrible bookbinder, cemented shoes, more power to them.
To keep the thread on track, that’s why I am eagerly awaiting AM’s Roma GYW range. Looks amazing on his IG teaser posts, I might order a pair* myself.
*Yes they will be brown Signore.
I am slowly bringing my better half into the world of welted footwear. She just discovered what real arch support is, and I could literally see the lightbulb switch on in her head!No argument there. Any GYW'd constructed shoe is superior to any constructed (can they still be considered constructed) bookbinder or cemented shoe.
These days you can pretty much find a quality inexpensive finely constructed shoe for under $200 (Meermin, Berwick Herring come to mind). A little bit more, and you can pick up an AE shoe or CS (someone can correct me on the price).
