Ankle Boot Fit: How tight is too tight?

My first pair of ankle boots just arrived in the mail, and now I'm wondering whether I'm forced to return them.

At first I couldn't even get my foot in the shoe without fear of creasing the leather, but after a little angling and strong tugging my foot slipped in just fine. Surprisingly, it feels only a little tight, and my real concern is that the round bone that protrudes from the ankle (on the outer side of each leg) is actually pushing into the leather, and it looks a just a little strange. Looking at a mirror I can't really tell, except there's an indent in the middle of the back sides of the shoes, not extreme. It will probably become painful after 4 or 5 hours of wearing the shoes, but I'm willing to suffer the pain if they'll break in nicely; I've never thought about this problem before, so I don't know. It won't actually be the ankle bone that is pained, but about 1-2 inches below, in front of the heel where a foot starts to curve.

Returned them yet? That's your answer. Blisters, etc., are not okay.
