Altering a cheap suit

Hey, first post here.

So I have a suit, very cheap Macy's kind, that fits fairly well, but I'd like to have it fit just a little bit better. I was wondering though if it was actually worth spending the money to have it further altered. I spend around $150 on it, then a bit more to adjust the sleeve/pants length. It fits rather nicely, but I'd like to have a bit more taper in the midsection, and maybe have the sleeves narrowed.

Obviously those two altercations would cost a bit, but cheap as it is I do like the suit. The reason I'd considering all this is really only because I don't have the money or purpose to spend loads on a custom suit.

My ultimate question is: is this all really worth it?

u don't need a custom suit..just a better OTR suit.

Fair enough. It's not really necessary, just a tempting thought. Any recommendations on where I can get a slim fitting, tapered suit? Macy's doesn't really seem to do the job...

if after the alterations, you look like a million bucks, then of course it's worth it


i think it's actually a good investment to try out the alterations on your cheap suit
see if you like the results... perhaps what you envisioned in your head is not what actually comes out after the fact
also, you can test out a tailor to see how well he does the job without being devastated if the work is not all that great

Absolutely correct. You can also get a feel for what your alterations tailor is capable of, and whether you'll be continuing to patronise him or whether you'll need to find someone else when The Time comes.

Bottom line"”you'll be more knowledgable about what you want and how a tailor can make it happen. Do it.
